MARCELLA PURNAMA

The other day, my Dad asked my sister about her job. She said she worked at a start-up bridal inventory that lists wedding vendors. Dad didn’t understand what she meant. So I said, ‘It’s like a real estate company who has listings of various houses and apartments to sell. Her workplace connects photographers and hotel ballrooms to engaged couples.’ He understood.

As a blogger with over 15k visits monthly, I believe that stories and analogies are effective communication tools to connect with people. Throughout my career, I have used storytelling to share certain ideas to both the public and potential business partners and/or clients, resulting in increase of readership and partnerships with different companies. Coming from a multicultural background also endorses my storytelling capacity to embrace people from various backgrounds.

I’m a writer and editor who is passionate about the book publishing industry. Apart from having the technical skills associated with publishing (copyediting, structural editing, social media and more), my area of specialty includes engagement between authors, publishers and readers in Young Adult Literature – a topic where I have written a minor thesis on. My research shows that readers’ emotional engagement on social media is linked towards the books’ success.

As I’ll be graduating from Master of Publishing and Communications at the University of Melbourne in July 2016, I’m currently looking for opportunity to work in the publishing industry (editorial or marketing department). Apart from skills in publishing area, I’m also experienced in journalism, marketing communications and videography.
